Re: Interesting technology/concept!
Max, great blog as always.  I was very impressed with the ease of transfering a design from TierFPGA to ASIC.  Usually this is fraught with problems as you mentioned.  Perhaps this technology will reapper sooner rather than later.

Re: Interesting technology/concept!
Laying down TFT's is quite messy compared with conventional wafer fab -- even using Ink-jet technology

Max,

At KHz speeds, and in quantities of thousands, with no penalties for one or two bad ones....

@Austin (ab6vu): "The problem with Tier Logic is the technology (TFT) just did not work."

Really? But I thought TFT was proven technology that is used in LCDs?

Re: Interesting technology/concept!
Max,

The problem with Tier Logic is the technology (TFT) just did not work.

That said, if it sounds too wonderful to be true:  it is.

All too often, we hear "carbon nanotube, 3-D ...."  (put your favorite catch-phrases here), but it is the same shell and pea game:  get funding, issue glowing press releases, generate a lot of buzz, and then quietly use all the money, and go away (a recent Dilbert Cartoon had this theme with Dogbert and a VC).

Integrating a new technology that is adopted by the ITRS and is in the roadmap is HARD WORD (3-D, finfet, 450mm wafers, etc.).  Choosing something outside of this is suicide (although it may be fun while it lasts, and you may get to drive your new Mercedes off into the sunset as the investors cry over the money that went away).

Re: Interesting technology/concept!
As usual, your drawings humble me, especially since I just finished some diagrams for my Blog. Anybody know how to export files from an Etch-A-Sketch?

@T34: thanks for sharing that Kaszpirowski video (I think?)

Pretty creepy :-)

Re: Interesting technology/concept!
@Brian: I really though that they had something here -- but I guess that for the existing companies they take the view that if you are already successful with the technology you have, why change anything -- and it just goes to show how hard it is to break into this arena, even if you have a really great technology...

Re: Interesting technology/concept!
Max thanks for another very interesting blog. It's a pure pleasure to read. Especially the part with "(...) close your eyes, sit back in your chair, take a deep breath (...)".

There was one guy, very popular here who was doing the same stuff ;)

I am shocked and horrified. It appears that those little scamps at Planet Analog are writing blogs pertaining to field-programmable issues.

Would you class these as adages, aphorisms, axioms, dictums, epigrams, maxims, precepts, saws, truisms, or... well, what?
In part 3 of this epic tale we consider how we might use tri-state buffers, leading up to the legendary bi-directional buffer.
Design West 2013 was one of the best conferences and exhibitions Max has attended in terms of interesting presentations and fun events.
