IP with libraries
Max, yes. They will provide with a set of libraries and we can include it in our program if needed as a function call in customized environments. Normally IP with integrated communication blocks fixes well.

Synthesis vs system design?
Brian said, "This has to be taken into account when the block is being synthesized. It can alter the optimizations that are considered. For example, there is no point having the block process data faster than it can realistically access that data, or faster than any results can be transferred out of the block."

Is synthesis going to analyze the whole system to determine the IO rates?  Or is that a paramater specified by system design?  In general, design is an iterative process and usually starts with estimates of size and speed based on the designers experience/skill.

When potential bottlenecks or opportunity for improvement are  identified then the next iteration is done.

In fact it will be pure magic if synthesis is ever ables to match the speeds anytime in our lifetimes.  The existing tools are frustrating enough because they expect a complete bug free design to begin with.

Re: Are there ready made blocks that provide hooks to MATLAB on a PC?
I don't know the answer to that. I know that they have some form of link with Mathworks, but not sure at what level. I have a feeling that it is for Simulink but not MATLAB. I will try and find out after I get back from vacation, or if anyone from Xilinx is lurking here, perhaps they can provide an official answer. As for the other vendors I don't know. The Synopsys Synphony product synthesises directly from MATLAB I believe.

Re: Do IP core suppliers also provide comms blocks
Most IP will be provided with one or more communications bocks already integrated, so the user will never see the separation. However, the synthesis vendor will probably provide a library of communications blocks for people who are creating their own blocks and need to integrate them into the rest of the system.

For Testing concepts, testbenches, etc?

Do IP core suppliers also provide comms blocks
Hi Brian -- do the folks who supply IP cores also supply the libraries of communications functions to convert the TLM side to the "bit-twiddling" side?

Can statistical or heuristic verification really work for FPGA designs?
I believe 3D ICs are basically the replacement for the PCB. In the near future, the PCB will become nothing other than a holder with the ability to add connectors and perhaps a few components that cannot be economically integrated within the chip package.
Is the recent news that Altera will be using the Intel 14nm node with TriGate technology for their future FPGAs significant, or is it just industry noise?
Recent developments in high-level synthesis (HLS) and IP Integration technology mean that software developers can more easily create hardware to accelerate their applications.
The latest release of the Vivado SoC-strength design suite introduces IP integration and high-level synthesis (HLS) enhancements.
