Re: Blast from the past
@Duane: That sounds like a good/realistic plan -- I can't wait to see it :-)

Re: Blast from the past
Max - I think for Design West, this year, I'll have slides and a box of parts. Design East should have something moving and controllable that more or less looks like a tele-presence robot. By Design West, next year, most or all of my electronics should be in final surface mount form, the mechanics should look somewhat finished and it should be web-controllable. That's my plan, anyway.

Re: Blast from the past
@Duane: I cannot wait to see the robot in all it's glory -- when do you sort of expect to have the first version up and running? In time for Design East thsi year, or Design West next year?

Re: Blast from the past
I can't run for the hills - too lazy. But, when I finally get my robot built, I might send it running for the hills.

@Duane: I'd probably say, "well, what are we waiting for."

I'm glad to hear you say that :-)   I was worried you might say that you'd run for the hills :-)

Re: Blast from the past
Max - re: '"A guy called Max is going to call and ask you something; for goodness sake say... " What would you say?'

I'd probably say, "well, what are we waiting for."

Programmable logic has the power to make heads swim, most assuredly. I could be convinced, with out too much persuasion, that the actual real purpose of the FPGA is to knock big-headed software folks back down to Earth. All of the projects that have FPGAs in them are really just part of the ruse. I wonder if I could start a conspiracy theory along those lines...

Regardless, my FPGA journey has been exciting, humbling, scary, thrilling, rewarding, fun, exhilarating and well worth taking.

@Crusty: I have tried a simple 2+2 in Python, which surprisingly gives  4.

I know that Jan for one will be delighted to hear this :-)

Re: Blast from the past
@Brian: My other "all time favorite" was Blade Runner with Harrison Ford -- I just loved the scenery and the music and ... well, wverything, really -- I must have seen that film more than 50 times ...

Re: Blast from the past
@Brian: I have to say that I thought the first Matrix film was absolutely incredible -- the effects were wonderful (some never seen before that time) and the storyline was tremendous. I've watched (and will probably watch again) the two sequels, but I still think the first was the best story-wise...

Re: Tiny Board
@Max My Pi has been awakened and I have tried a simple 2+2 in Python, which surprisingly gives  4.

It's on my list of things to do to get to know it better plus Python.

I wasted a lot of time at first with a USB cable that did not transfer enough current to the Pi, gave numerous boot problems, good power supply and good USB cable essential.

My son (36) has both memory versions but has been too busy to get deep into using them.

I am also resurrecting a large cross section of Acorn (6520) & Risc computers  as they are so cheap now.

Everything log jammed until I get the Papilio One emulating the physical disc drive for the Apple lle, I have some of the clocked signal capture done but need to know if Micro Blaze available for Spartan 3, does not seem to be in the ISE license file. Need this to make using an SD card as storage easier.

Duane has decided that the time is ripe to get his ZedBoard bolted onto his robot with a Linux distribution up and running. That was the ultimate plan anyway, so why wait?
Now it's time to delve deeper into the state machine I'm using to control my I2C interface.
The three states associated with bi-directional "inout" pins can cause confusion for the unwary.
It's time to jump into unexplored territory -- the state machine that will control Duane Benson's I2C interface.
We're now ready for the I2C master to transmit a command set to a remote device.
