See you Garcia -- See you Intseeker --and anyone else who is out there -- more soon -- Max

Blogger

@ALL: Me too. I got inthe chat ay 12:47 PM EST, so I figure I don't want to get paid overtime, so I will stop right here. So long!

Beginner

See you in the blogs, APP crew!!

Blogger

OK -- I'm going to have to run also -- I have lots of columns to write -- please do check APP in about 1.5 hours and comment on the APP Membership card thing -- I'll be happy to send you one once we have them made up

Blogger

@Crusty: Ate' logo!

Beginner

What did you think of the picture in this week's Don't Forget The Chat blog?

Blogger

@Max: I've read both of them. Yesterday, I forwarded the Smoke Refurbisher to the full electronic department mail-list, and we real have a laugth!! Your military weird dream, is quite similar to me... That's consequence of the "Soma" pills!!

Blogger

Bye Crusty -- and again, please say "Hi" to Mrs Crusty from all of us

Blogger

@Max: Sorry I mispelled. I meant plane.

Beginner

I'm going to be posting a blog on APP this afternoon about a sooper-dooper APP Membership card -- I'm asking for help with the wording -- if you come back to APP in about 1.5 hours you'll see it -- I would love to have your feedback

Blogger

Bye All Washing up is calling

Blogger

@Intseeker: I menat in the plain on the way back to Holland.

Ah -- the problem is that you said "plain" which is a large grassy area -- you meant "plane" which is a metal tube that flies through the air :-)

Blogger

@intseeker: How do you know a quad copter is going forward or backward?

From an observer's pont of view you don't. From the user's point of bview, you have to pick one side as "the front" and the other as "the back" just to know what you are doing -- the fact that it has a forward facing camera at one end helps to tie down which is "the front" :-)

Blogger

@Max: I menat in the plain on the way back to Holland.

Beginner

@Max: How do you know a quad copter is going forward or backward? It just got me thinking. Aren't they simetrical?

Beginner

@Intseeker -- there will be 250 propeller beanies wandering wroudn the conference (with their owners, of course)

Blogger

@ALL Assuming that I go to DW: I will wear the hat in the plain only if there is another attendee so we can turnb the propeller.

Beginner

Bye Tomii -- I'll be posting your next blog on Monday I think

Blogger

The prize is going to be one of those super-dooper Quad Copters than's controlled by an iPad or iPhone and that has both forward and downward facing cameras...

Blogger

Yeah, I need to run, too.  C y'all L8R

Blogger

By Brian -- thansk for joining us

Blogger

@crusty -- check the earlier postings on thsi chat -- folks are going to be able to download rthe source files or buy ready-built kits

Blogger

@Crusty - YUMMY!

@ ALL - gotta' run for a bit.  The internet technician just showed up.  I'm not going to mention the company by name, but I don't recommend Charter Communications!

Also, I will be traveling in GA next week and NC/SC the week after that, so I'll chat with everyone the 3rd week in February!

Guru

@Max: "I'm going to be . . . . -- can you guess what we are going to do...

Go to the bar and brag about APP?

Beginner

Well, in this case the propeller beanies will "vote" amongst themselves and elect a winner...

And I picked the prize ....

Blogger

@Max How are the stop at home APP going to get these hats. There will be a class divide the props and no props

Blogger

You knwo how you usually have some sort of a "raffel" at these events...

Blogger

At the end of the first day, there's ghoing to be a "meet and greet " ("beer and nibbles") party on the exhibition floor for all the attendees

Blogger

@Brian We have had our fried mackerel and a medley of roasted vegetables so tummy full now

Blogger

@Garcia:

Only a few 30-day trips, and that was back in the '90's...

@Brian:

He'll be making a 250-copter...

Blogger

@Garcia: In Spain, we are forced to use "second-hand smoke" for fueling the bits now...

That must be hard! Is Spain looking at approving a free Pot legislation, such as in the Netherland and we had in the past election?

Beginner

Max: A CapNet  powered multi craneal MESH??

Blogger

@Max: what will you be doing with 250 CapNet Propeller Beanies?  Spinning?

Guru

@Crusty: what is Mrs. Crusty making for your meal (I am hungry - it is lunch time here, so maybe it will help when I hear what other people are eating.)  Will she make you do the dishes today?

Guru

I'm going to be writing a follow-up blog on the CapNet Propeller Beanies next week -- this will be about how they are going to be used at the end of the first day (after all of the training has been done and we have 250 beanies out there) -- can you guess what we are going to do...

Blogger

@Tomii: If you have been here, you already known how the economy works here....

Blogger

@Max:

Beats Dwarves.  Statistically speaking, only 1 in 7 is happy...

Blogger

@tomii: I have gnomes.

I think you can get a cream for that

Blogger

@Garcia:

So....  You have to blow up your computer in order to use it?  Seems counter-productive..

Blogger

@Max: "The day after tomorrow"

Good one!

Beginner

@garcia: ...whats the maximum achievable frequency for a FIFO?

I'll have to defer this to some of the other guys -- after this chat, post this question on Adam and Hamster's latest ZedBoard-related blogs

Blogger

@Brian:

I was very nicely not saying *chitter*  ;p

Blogger

In Spain, we are forced to use "second-hand smoke" for fueling the bits now...

Blogger

@Tomil Brian might try for Sprites?

Blogger

Oops, "BUG LAUGH" = BIG LAUGH

Guru

@tomii: Re: I have gnomes.

BUG LAUGH out of that one...

Guru

@intseeeker: When is the "future"?

I remember when someone was talking about the film "The Day After Tomorrow" and they asked me "Have you seen 'The Day After Tomorrow'?" and I could legitemetly say "Yes, I saw it the day before yesterday!"

Blogger

@Max:When is the "future"?

Ask me tomorrow :-)

That is lightening fast, Max!

Beginner

@Crusty (cont'd):

...

They have a bit-bucket brigade set up...

Blogger

@Crusty:

That was Brian.  I have gnomes.

Blogger

@tomil You got Elves? We only get earthworms to carry the bits here

Blogger

@Max:

Rules, schmules.  I like hits so hard they give *me* a concussion...

Blogger

@intseeker: When is the "future"?

Ask me tomorrow :-)

Blogger

@Max: Yes I completely agree. By the way,  @ALL: do you know how fast the 7-series logic in the Zedboard is? For example: whats the maximum achievable frequency for a FIFO?

Blogger

@Max:

Well, this year I'll be a skosh more interested - I live near Baltimore, so that's "my team"

Blogger

@tomii: ..you're supposed to wear your underwear on the *outside* when you're wearing your cape..

Of course, that goes without saying :-)

Blogger

@tomii: my internet is so slow right now I keep looking out the window to watch the little internet elves run the bits back-n-forth in their little wheel barrows!

Guru

@Tomii -- I'm really looking forward to the Super Bowl -- even though I get confused about som eof the weird and wonderful rules

Blogger

@Max: well-placed job-wise in the future.

When is the "future"?

Beginner

@Max:

That's because you're supposed to wear your underwear on the *outside* when you're wearing your cape...

Blogger

So, anyone do anything "special" for the Super bowl (yes, I realize it's mostly an American thing...

My mom & dad used to make strawberry shortcake before the game, so it's a tradition I'm passing on to the kids (even though I'm mostly in it for the commercials)

Blogger

@Brian: Well, I'm wearing my cape, but it doesn;t seem to make the Internet go any faster

Blogger

@all:

Shhot, I'm so slow it all still seems fast.

doh.

Blogger

@Intseeker It more like Handcocks half hour

Blogger

@Max: we thought you had a special fiber-link to the server.....and a cape!

Guru

@garcia: ...ordering my brand-new Zedboard... I'm making a smart decission??

I would say so -- I think the Zynq type of device (hard processors with programmable fabric) is the wave of the future -- and anyone who learns how to take full advantage of it now (when it's still in the early days) will be really well-placed job-wise in the future.

Blogger

@Max: Sadly, not in the place of Spain I live in... It's just in the frontier with France, near the Pyrenees

Blogger

@max perhaps the enterprise is having it's revenge

Blogger

@Brian: Max told me before I started that it is the nature of a APP chat.

Beginner

Wow -- I'm having time-lag and posting problems now (sad face)

Blogger

@tomii: Re: Huh!?!?  - LOL!!

Guru

@Brian It's  when the shadows answer that you have to worry

Blogger

@garcia: quite nice after 1 week  of snowi!!

Snow? I didn't realize you had snow in Spain -- I thought life over there was all about basking on the beach

Blogger

@Fast question: I'm just two clicks away from ordering my brand-new Zedboard... I'm making a smart decission?? THX

Blogger

@tomii - thanks!  I thought others were just having lag problems - I didn't know that there was also posting problems.  Between APP issues and the internet issues - I'm wondering if I should go take a nap!  :-)

Guru

@All time lag bad now

Blogger

@Brian, Crusty:

My dad used to say it was okay to talk to yourself so long as you didn't say "Huh!?!"

Unfortunately, I find myself saying that, too...

Blogger

@intseeker: It's OK, I know the problem... ;-)

Blogger

Wow, it worked this time - amazing.  Sorry all, I am having conversations with myself.  (Crusty - I know you understand where I am coming from...  :-)

Guru

@Brian:

Not just you.  Seems to be an epedemic..

Blogger

@Garcia: Hi, Garcia from Espan~ha. The blog GUI doesn't pass special char control from my Mac.

Beginner

(Posted this 4 times now, posting again just for the fun of it)  Hello everyone!  I am having intermittent internet issues right now.  So, if I "disappear" at any point, you will know why!

Guru

@Brian:

Thank you, thank you.  I'll be here all week.  Try the deep fried dog on a stick!

Blogger

@Max: cloudy and 15ºC. quite nice after 1 week  of snowi!!

Blogger

@Garcia:

Where in Spain, BTW?  I used to go to Zaragossa every once in a while...

Blogger

@tomii - I could almost visualize Robin Williams saying err typing that...

Guru

@tomii: This is my second chat only and I already figured you're a pet lover. :0)

Beginner

Hi Garcia -- what's the weather like in Spain today (it's cold and wet here)

Blogger

Good moooorning Spaaaain!

Blogger

@Brian: Others have reported a time-lag -- I'm not seeing one myself, but that doesn;t mean it's not happening

Blogger

@Brian Not much of a lag for me, except Mrs Crusty has a ball and chain on me so I may be an old lag

Blogger

It's lag.  I think we've killed the server with all our amazing intellects.  It just seems slow by comparison

Blogger

A lot of regulars won;t be able to make this chat -- Duane is tied up in a meeting, Adam is in Korea, and Brian LaGrave has lost his Internet due to a storm last night

Blogger

Good evening from Spain, X-Men!!

Blogger

@Crusty:

You did what with a small dog, now?

Blogger

Hey Crusty!  (Is there a lag on the chat today or is it my internet connection!?)

Guru

Max: I'm such a comodian...

Blogger

Any one run Bascom on a papilio, I am having trouble.

Blogger

@timii: ...we need to get rid of the future perfect tense, since it never is...

LOL -- Good one

Blogger

@tomii: Thanks for helping me out, pal!

Beginner

@All:

To paraphrase Douglas Adams - we need to get rid of the future perfect tense, since it never is...

Blogger

...

err...  Will have asked...

Blogger

@int:

My poor design cause a time dialation for Max, too - he's just answering questions you asked 5 minutes from now...

Blogger

@Max: You/re answering my questions before I can even formulate them in my head! Thanx.

Beginner

Also I believe Synapse are going to offer them as a pre-build kit -- not sure if this will be from their own website or from Digi-Key (which is one of their distributers).

Blogger

@intseeker: Do you think they won't be put for sale on Amazon?

Actually, David Ewing at Synapse (the guy who is doing the design) is going to make all of the design files (board, code, etc) availabe as open source, so anyone can build one.

Blogger

@Max:

The trick was to get the PC to talk to the OK board.  I was doin' plenty o' talkin' to both, if you know what I mean...

Blogger

Seems to maybe be some "net lag" in the chat today

Blogger

@Tomii: I can now talk to a board

Well, so can I -- the trick is to get your Opal Kelly module to talk to a board :-)

Blogger

*chirping crickets*

Blogger

@tomii: I can't head out there, though, so I guess I don't get one.

They are going to be too expensive for me to be able to give them away to everyone at APP -- it's wonderful that Synapse are building 250 for the live training and the talks at DESIGN West. But there is a way for everyone to have one ...

Blogger

@tomii: Do you think they won't be put for sale on Amazon? I bet they will. Max is very good at guerrila marketing. :0)

Beginner

@intseeker -- re the propeller beanies -- all of the electronics (including LEDs and woreless module and motot/propeller) will be packaged in/on a small board -- so you coudl indeded remove this and attach it to your trademake Panama Hat -- then you could wander the conference in "Stealth Mode"

Blogger

Hey max.

Finally made it through the initial software integration on my OK stuff.  I can now talk to a board

Blogger

I never thought I'd see the day where I used the words "cool" and "Beanie" in the same sentence....

I can't head out there, though, so I guess I don't get one.

Blogger

@tomii: Interesting at these days the room in the basement I'm using to play with the MSP430 and some other ancillary hardware and software.

Beginner

@all or just tomii: I which there will be the "barebones" propeller kit as an option, so I can optionally put and take away from my panama hat. Then "they" won't know I'm part of the CapNet.

Beginner

Anything interesting going on out there in the real world?

Blogger

Darn! I am not the first! Good afternoon all!

Beginner

Wooo!  Top post!

My faulty relay circuit caused the Dilithium matrix to go wonky.  it caused a time dialation.  I'm actually typing this 12 minutes from now...

Blogger

Our weekly chat will commence at 12:00 p.m. my time (Central USA Time), which is 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, and 6:00 p.m. UTC/GMT (you'll have to work out your local time from these clues -- or you can use this handy-dandy Time Zone Converter).

As always, we will be following our usual practice of leaping from topic to topic with the agility of young, fearless mountain goats, so make sure you're wearing appropriate clothing!

This week's live online chat takes place on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Duane has decided that the time is ripe to get his ZedBoard bolted onto his robot with a Linux distribution up and running. That was the ultimate plan anyway, so why wait?
Would you class these as adages, aphorisms, axioms, dictums, epigrams, maxims, precepts, saws, truisms, or... well, what?
Here we discover how to use the XADC (Xilinx Analog-to-Digital Convertor) in the Zynq All Programmable SoC to read the chip's internal temperature and voltage parameters and output them over an RS-232 link.
When extreme thermal cycling causes circuit boards and chip packages and the silicon die in the packages to expand and contract at different rates, problems may ensue.
